Stupid Smart People.

I'm always amazed at how stupid "smart" people can be.  For example, AG Loretta Lynch recently said that she "regretted" meeting with Bill Clinton on a tarmac in a galaxy far, far away.  Under the categories of "What were you thinking" and "Seriously, what were you freaking THINKING?" I have to wonder how anyone who reached such a high level position, could even CONSIDER meeting with the hubby of the wubby who was under investigation by the FBI!  Did she think no one would find out?  How could she NOT know how unethical such a meeting would be?  And to make matters worse, she claimed that they just chit-chatted about grand kids.  As ridiculous as that sounds, even if it were true, anyone who has seen more than three episodes of Law and Order gets that it's the appearance of impropriety that must be avoided.  So now she says she regrets the meeting.  To quote a line from The Shawshak Redemption: "How can you be so obtuse?"  A president with a grain of integrity would've fired this incompetent (at best, corrupt at worst) woman on the spot.  But no one, least of all moi, expected that to happen.

Another good example of smart people being dumb, was Hillary Clinton's line about half of Trump supporters being a "basket of deplorables."  Did she run that by someone BEFORE she said it?  Indeed, did she come up with it herself?  My guess is that someone thought it was hip, and gave it to Ms Edmund Hillary.  In any case, what kind of a moron thinks that such an utterance wouldn't make the Trump people more determined than ever, to vote, donate, and steel themselves for the fight?

Recently, as excuses for Hillary's crash and burn, we've heard a lot of geniuses provide the most inane explanations for her demise.  It was FBI director James Comey's fault.  It was the Russianseses fault.  It was fake newseses fault.  Any day now, I expect these crazy smart guys and gals to say it's San Andreas's fault.  It certainly can't be HILLARY'S fault.  It can't be the Democratic Party's fault for nominating such a pathetic candidate, who could barely beat an aging socialist with a pulse that was mostly theoretical.  It couldn't be the fault of leftist philosophy, which people have grown sooooo tired.

The longer I'm around, the more I'm convinced that intellectuals do more harm than good.  I say this because it seems like whenever I hear a STUPID idea, that about half the time, it comes from someone with a Ph.D at a "major" university.  I'm STILL waiting for someone at Harvard to say something I agree with, or at least something that doesn't make me want to launch my lunch.  I don't know what it is with these super-educated twits, that causes them to talk so dumb.  Maybe it's because they're so impressed with their brain power.  Or maybe they're just a-holes.

There are just too many morons in this world, and while some of the poorly educated can be a royal pain, it's the super educated that drive me crazy.  They're crazy, themselves.  Every idiot leftist idea seems to come out of colleges and universities.  Gender studies?  African-American studies?  How about giving these snowflake students puppies to pet, because they can't cope with the fact that Trump won?  Remember the "self-esteem" movement?  New math?  Not to mention the most IDIOTIC idea of all, "diversity."  It's a long list.  Gun free zones?  Safe zones?  Segregated dorms?  Intellectuals came up with all of these idiot ideas that us great unwashed are too "dumb" to think of.  In the 70's we were told an ice age was imminent.  Now it's global warming, even though I'm freezing my butt off in Las Vegas.

I don't even know how to end this, except to say that GOD save us from people smarter than us.

    What are segregated dorms?

Dormitories for blacks only. Also, student unions for blacks only. Also, numerous campus organizations for African Americans only.

I am amazed. What happened to the civil rights movement? The irony defies credulity.

          That it does.

It is a reasonable right to be inclined to separate yourself as you might wish, as long as it doesn’t infringe on the CRA of ‘65. That’s one of those things where you read what the Aryan Nation & the Nation of Islam write, they both want the same thing, a place where they look & think like the rest of the people around them & they won’t be called evil names for being that closed minded. It’s not my cup of tea, but this is a very large nation with ample room to accommodate such reasonable desires. I don’t have much patience for the hypocrisy of we want what you have & we want what we have, but you can’t even think about what we have. There’s no reason that a school with a women’s reading room shouldn’t have a men’s study lounge or that a black student union shouldn’t be directly across the quad from the “white” student union, while both are just out of sight of the actual student union.

Private colleges that want to engage in such discrimination, should be allowed to, but I resent my tax dollars being used to promote such divisions, other than, say, men and women’s dorms, sports teams, and bathrooms. Someday these institutions of higher learning will put education first, but I may not be around to see it.

It’s not promoting, it’s respecting something they are already inclined to do on their own. I’m not okay with school money funding anything, but “The Student Union” you can have what you want in the way of white or black student unions, but you should also be obliged to fund your own exclusionary activities & then put your big boy/girl pants on to deal with being excluded as you’ve excluded others. Forcing people to interact when they’d rather not rarely ends well.

Criminals do things that SEEM like a good idea at the time only to realize in retrospect that their “good idea” wasn’t.

Just like anything else, it’s 10% with big mouths making the rest look bad.

Just to respond to your comments above, to me it’s not about forcing anyone to interact with others. I’m just saying that the state shouldn’t be doing the bidding of others. Integrate the dorms, and if some choose to associate with others, that’s their business, not the school’s.

They did integrate the dorms, this came after, they didn’t like being integrated & they have chosen to segregate themselves. I just don’t see why that’s a right only understood when asserted by racial minorities & women.

Well, there are different ways of looking at this, I guess. I don’t particularly care if some don’t want to be integrated. They might WANT to segregate themselves, but ultimately it’s the decision of the college or university. Students don’t get to make these decisions. So from my point of view, if they don’t like living in a dormitory with those of all walks of life, they can just go eat beans.

In general I agree with your point of view, to the point that “it’s the decision of” that gets a little too close to telling a baker they can do contract work for a gay couple or they can close their shop & starve.
I’d be inclined to say if you want to go to school with & live with other blacks, go to a black school, there’s a list of the 30 best, if you don’t want to live with boys… go to a women’s college, there’s a list of the 20 best & 30 most affordable. If you are a white male… you’ve got no such choices & that seems wrong to me. My issue is that if there’s a black student union there better be no flak at all about a white student union, either both are legit or neither is.

Well, I see no point of a student union that discriminates on the basis of race, period. A college just for men or women, or perhaps those with handicaps, I have no problem with. I believe that private institutions should be allowed to permit only certain races in, but I don’t like it. Black colleges had their function in the age of Jim Crow, but today, they’re not necessary, and just promote racial pride, an exclusivity. These schools should allow all races in, but they shouldn’t be forced to.

On smart people being wrong – are you familiar with Philip Tetlock’s work?

If he’s not a baseball player, I’m not familiar with him.

No, he’s not a baseball player. He conducted an experiment. He got a whole bunch of “experts” to make some predictions about future events. He waited. The predictions turned out to be no more accurate than would have resulted from simply tossing a coin. The experiment also showed that the more famous the expert, the less accurate they were. Yet the famous experts are never held accountable for their terrible records and just continue to produce poor predictions.

I did some checking on this man, after you gave me his name, and found what you just wrote. Smart people are so often wrong. How many physicists thought Einstein was bonkers when he was a young man? There was a time when “experts” thought that flying machines were impossible. It seems to be those who are outside the mainstream that make the world change, for good — or sometimes bad. I’ve seen this in poker, for example, where the players who’ve read all the books, and are up on all the newest strategies, take a back seat to others who have developed their own approach to the game, and have done very well. The book addicts are often pretty good, but those that maybe read some, but develop their own style, are usually the more successful.
